The Prince Albert piercing was called the “Dressing Ring,” by the Victorian dealers of men’s clothing in the early centuries. Body piercings have become very popular in the last two decades and are accepted as part of the Western and Indian mainstream culture. Many celebrities, sport stars and actors are sporting nose rings, navel rings or labrets, which were actually a form of expression used in ancient times for cultural, spiritual or religious reasons. Today, it has become a fascinating subject for men and women, who wish to move out of their biological confines and sport body piercings, in every conceivable part of their body.
Studies on the subject of the Prince Albert piercing indicate that men went through this form of genital piercing, to hold their penis to one side, as it was fashionable to wear tight fitting pants in the early Victorian era. The penis is also a vascular area similar to the tongue, nasal septum and the vertical clitoral hood. To perform this sort of piercing, a tiny lubricated tube is warmed and inserted into the urethra, to go up a short way. Men who have subjected themselves voluntarily to this type of body piercing surprisingly report hardly any pain though they agree that there is minor discomfort of the area.
The Prince Albert piercing takes about four weeks to heal. Bleeding is a normal result of the procedure which is only to be expected. There may be very few men who do not bleed but the piercer takes every effort to wrap the area immediately, after the piercing, to ensure that the blood does not stain the clothing. Bleeding will last for a few days on and off. Men should ideally refrain from taking excess caffeine, or aspirin a few days prior to the procedure, as this will help to ensure that the urine is not acidic. There is discomfort due to stinging, when passing urine, though urine by itself will work, to heal the area similar to using saline solutions.
It will help to drink lots of water to reduce the sting. It also helps to rinse any secretion that may form around the piercing. Make sure that you take supplements of vitamin K that can be purchased at any health food store for quick healing and strengthening of the pierced area.
Men, ideally prefer to use captive rings, or circular barbells if not a curved bar. Since the foreskin continues to stretch after healing, many men prefer to wear jumbo jewelry. It is essential to inform the piercer, before the piercing, about desiring to wear more jewelry, as the piercer will then ensure that little more tissue is pierced between the edge of the urethra and the piercing, to house the heavy rings. Jewelry can be used starting from 10 to 12 gauge thickness and the inside diameter of the ring should ideally be 5/8" or 3/4". Prince Albert piercings allows the wearer to enjoy heightened sexual pleasures, even as men admit that the piercing is a mental challenge rather than a physical challenge to their "family jewels!"
