How long is it necessary to saline soak nostril and tragus piercings

by Bonni
(United States)

I've surfed the web and cannot find an answer to this question: How long is it necessary to saline soak and lather up with soap, nostril and tragus piercings, IF THE HEALINGS ARE GOING WELL? I'm aware of not changing the jewelry too soon, and am not in a hurry to change off for at least three months, but isn't three months of washing and soaking a bit of overkill? Thanks much. :o)

Saline Soaks.
by: Stacie

When you get your tragus pierced, as well as your nose, your piercer will tell you to clean it on a regular basis until completely healed(cartilage piercing as such can actually take up to a year). Usually they tell you three to six months, so I would personally do the twice a day wash with your antibacterial soap, and on your last wash for the night, do your saline soak. You don't have to do it every night unless it's a brand new piercing. Once your piercing is at the three month mark, you could possibly cut down to the saline soaks to 3 times a week, if even that. The older your piercing gets, the less saline washes :) If you EVERRRR notice any sort of bump next to your piercing(inside or out), start your saline soaks again, but do a compress with a cotton ball(of course you'll be using hot sea salt water). Happy day! :)
