dried mucas on the stud of my nose ring

i have tried mucas on and around my nose stud. i just got it pierced 5 days ago and it still hurts. how would i go about getting this off my nose ring without hurting myself? i have soaked in salt solution to soften it up but its not working and i have tried a warm wet qtip but that always seems to catch the end of the ring and it hurts on the inside. any suggestions on what i should do to clean this off?
